"Building Trust: The CDAOs Role in Crafting Ethical, Explainable, and Transparent Data & AI Strategies to Protect People and Consumers" Closing Panel at the CDAO Summit - Tues Oct 1
Yesterday we shared how our 11th CDAO Summit on Oct 1, 2024 is bookended by two panels that will explore how Chief Data and Analytics Officers (CDAOs) are using data and AI to protect and serve the nation and its people.
Today we'll review the closing panel, which shows how CDAOs are using data and AI to protect people and consumers, and is titled "Building Trust: The CDAOs Role in Crafting Ethical, Explainable, and Transparent Data and AI Strategies to Protect People and Consumers."
As data and AI technologies continue to permeate every aspect of our lives, the need for trustworthy, transparent, and explainable strategies becomes paramount, especially in industries that directly impact people, citizens, and consumers.
This panel brings together leading experts from the financial, regulatory, and consumer sectors to discuss the crucial role of Chief Data and Analytics Officers (CDAOs) in safeguarding consumer interests through responsible and ethical data and AI practices.
They'll explore how they are developing and implementing data and AI strategies that not only deliver business value but also build consumer trust, ensuring that technology serves as a force for good in today’s complex marketplace.
The panel includes the following all-star participants:
Austin Gerig: Chief Data Officer, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission will share insights on how the SEC leverages data and AI to enhance market integrity, protect investors, and ensure transparent financial operations. Austin received his PhD in Physics in 2007 and was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Technology-Sydney from 2008-2011. He was Senior Fellow at the University of Oxford from 2011-2014. He joined the SEC in 2014. From 2016-2020 he was Head of the Office of Data Science, Division of Economic and Risk Analysis. Austin has been Chief Data Officer at the SEC since 2020.
Iwao Fusillo: Global Head of Data & Analytics - eCommerce, PepsiCo will discuss his experience at PepsiCo, GM, the NFL, and American Express in deploying data-driven strategies across global brands to enhance consumer trust, drive personalized experiences, and maintain ethical standards in eCommerce. Iwao has tremendous cross-industry experience in strategy, data and analytics, having previously served as CDAO at General Motors; as SVP Data Analytics & Insights at the National Football League; and as Global Head of Strategy & Insights at American Express where he worked for over 23 years.
Kristin Switzer: Senior Advisor to the Chief Data Officer, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, will provide an inside look at how data and AI are being used to protect consumers from financial harm, ensure fair practices, and promote transparency in the financial services industry. Kristin started at the Department of Justice in 2007; was Senior Litigation Paralegal at BuckleySandler; then joined the CFPB in 2013, working in various roles in Regulatory Implementation and Data Governance in the Office of Regulations and the Office of Technology and Innovation. She became Senior Advisor to the Chief Data Officer in 2020.
Key takeaways from this session include:
• Building Trust: Learn how CDAOs are creating data and AI strategies that prioritize transparency, trustworthiness, and ethical considerations to protect people and serve citizens and consumers effectively.
• Driving Business Value with Integrity: Learn how CDAOs are balancing the dual goals of driving business growth and maintaining high ethical standards in data and AI usage, fostering long-term consumer loyalty and trust.
• Cross-Industry Perspectives: Explore how different sectors—financial, consumer goods, and regulatory—approach the challenges of data transparency and protection or people in the age of AI.
• Explainable AI: Gain insights into the importance of developing AI systems that are explainable and understandable to citizens, regulators, and stakeholders, ensuring accountability and trust.

CHIEF AI OFFICER SUMMIT OPENING KEYNOTE: The Chief AI Officer Talent Map
Learn All About This Critical New Role!
Eleven years ago on February 28, 2013 at the inaugural CDO Summit in NYC I keynoted on the world's first-ever "Chief Digital Officer Talent Map," which covered key CDO demographic data, new CDO hires, compensation, skills, career path, reporting structures, and statistics on geographic distribution, gender, education, age, and race.
Today there are thousands of executives who hold these CDO titles globally. Of course its dated now, but you can still download the original 2013 CDO Talent Map here.
In September prior to the Chief AI Officer Summit in Washington DC, we'll be publishing the world's first-ever Chief AI Officer Talent Map 2024 to that same page, so stay tuned.
Every day we get the same questions from journalists, the media, hiring managers, CHROs, and fellow CAIOs/CDAOs: they want to know who these Chief AI Officers are, what organizations they work for, what they are responsible for, where they are located, their backgrounds/skills, and how to get one - or become one!
Based on over one year of research, the Chief AI Officer Talent Map 2024 will answer those questions and more. It explores the Chief AI Officer title in depth, including a look at some of the leaders who hold the title, the organizations they work for, compensation, key responsibilities, reporting structure, headcount, budget, previous work experience, and other demographic data including age, gender, region, sector, tenure, etc.
The Chief AI Officer Talent Map 2024 is intended for C-suite and Board-level AI, digital/data/analytics executives and leaders in HR, Strategy, IT, Marketing, Sales, and Business Development, as well as executive recruiters, hiring managers, compensation directors, and industry analysts, journalists, and researchers.
The Executive Summary of the Chief AI Officer Talent Map 2024 will be available for complimentary download, the full report will cost $995.
BONUS: Delegates who buy BOTH DAYS at regular price will get the Chief AI Officer Talent Map 2024 at NO COST = a $995 value!
