33 New Chief AI Officers Named at Federal Agencies
Brings Total to 57 US Federal CAIOs to Date Two Dozen Jobs at AWS, Booz, Business Insider, Citi, Cognizant, Google, JPMC, Mastercard,

As our regular readers know, based on the White House Executive Order on AI released in October 2023, on Thursday, March 28, 2024, U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris and the Office of Management & Budget (OMB) announced a sweeping new policy to promote the safe use of AI by the federal government.
The policy includes three binding requirements that mandates all federal agencies to provide concrete safeguards against AI harm; to provide transparency for AI use cases; and to appoint a Chief AI Officer.
“We are requiring that every federal agency designate a Chief AI Officer who has the experience, expertise and authority to oversee all AI technologies being used by that agency. This is to make sure that AI is used responsibly, understanding that we must have senior leaders across our government who are specifically tasked with overseeing AI adoption and use,” Vice President Harris said of the Chief AI Officer role on the 3/28/24 White House briefing call.
Previously we shared the names of the CAIOs appointed at Housing and Urban Development, the Securities and Exchange Commission, Treasury, and more.
Previously they had named approximately twenty four (24) CAIOs at US federal agencies.
On Friday July 5, 2024, we saw that another thirty three (33) CAIOs had been "quietly" appointed, bringing the total to 57 federal agencies that have named Chief AI Officers to date.
We have not seen an official announcement yet of those 33 new CAIOs yet.
It seems the press has not noticed either, since there is no mention of it on any major news site, or any site for that matter.
