NATIONAL AI TALENT SEARCH is TOMORROW Thursday April 18 from 1-4pmET:

As mentioned previouly, U.S. Office of Management and Budget Director Shalanda Young announced that the Biden-Harris White House has launched a "national talent search" for Chief AI Officers and AI professionals in the hope of hiring at least 100 by this summer.

As part of that national talent search initiative:
  • Thurs April 18, 1-4pm: U.S. OPM and OMB will host an AI Virtual Forum and Job Fair to attract top talent and facilitate job placements in the field. "During the event, you’ll have the opportunity to hear from incredible technologists like Ivy Teng Lei, Chief Digital Strategy Officer for the State of California, and Aroon Ramadoss, Senior Technical Advisor to the CTO at the Department of Veterans Affairs. Whether you are actively looking for a new role or simply curious about the prospect of working in government, the Tech to Gov Virtual Forum is a unique opportunity to connect with thoughtful people and useful resources."

On Thursday 3/28/24, VP Kamala Harris and the Office of Management & Budget (OMB) announced a sweeping new policy to promote the safe use of AI by the federal government.

The policy includes three binding requirements that mandates all federal agencies: to provide concrete safeguards against AI harm; to provide transparency for AI use cases; and to appoint a Chief AI Officer.

Finally, we are requiring that every federal agency designate a Chief AI Officer who has the experience, expertise and authority to oversee all AI technologies being used by that agency,” Harris said. “This is to make sure that AI is used responsibly, understanding that we must have senior leaders across our government who are specifically tasked with overseeing AI adoption and use,” VP Harris said of the Chief AI Officer role on the 3/28/24 White House briefing call.

  • 4/2/24: Executive Order: “White House directs federal agencies to name Chief AI Officers” (3/28/24). The Biden-Harris White House announced a sweeping new policy to promote the safe use of AI by the federal government. The policy includes three binding requirements that mandates all federal agencies: to provide concrete safeguards against AI harm; to provide transparency for AI use cases; and to appoint a Chief AI Officer.

As Axios reported in DC's Hottest New Job: The Chief AI Officer, "Hundreds of agencies across the federal government are scrambling to find more than 400 chief AI officers by the end of the year. Why it matters: The requirement, one of the edicts of President Biden's recent AI executive order, aims to make sure every arm of government has a top exec who is ready to deal with AI. Driving the news: The Office of Management and Budget has released guidance to federal agencies on how to implement Biden's AI executive order — and how to hire a chief AI officer (CAIO) is on top of that list. The Executive Office of the President is also required to hire a Chief AI Officer."

Delegates, speakers, and sponsors can participate in one or both events.
