As you may recall, in September 2023, we began tracking new hires for the “Chief AI Officer” (CAIO) title at major organizations globally. January is typically a slow month for new hires, but we did see US Federal Agencies continiue to hire Chief AI Officers according to the mandate in the White House Executive Order on AI:
January, 2024: Two new CAIOs at U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) and U.S. Department of State (DOS).

November, 2023: Nine new CAIOs at at the General Services Administration (GSA); National Science Foundation (NSF); U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD); U.S. Department of Education (DOE); more.
