Arguably the biggest trust issue facing organisations today in the wake of digital transformation and big data is how users’ data is used.
A 2014 TRUSTe consumer data privacy study showed that 92% of US internet users are worried about online privacy, and 89% actively avoid doing business with companies they feel do not protect their data privacy.
58% are worried about businesses sharing their personal information with other companies.
Each of these numbers is higher than in previous years, and rising.
Facebook came under severe scrutiny last year when it was revealed that their data science team had been conducting experiments on users “with virtually no supervision,” the Telegraph reported.
More recently, user data on millions of Ashley Madison accounts was hacked and released, data that the company previously said had been deleted.
Since improper use of data can result in a PR or even legal disaster for any company today, the CDO Club will be addressing this issue with an important panel at the upcoming 2nd annual U.K. CDO Summit on 7 October, 2015 at 30 Euston Square, titled “Balancing Big Data Initiatives with User Consent.”
The panel will be a moderated debate on the legal, ethical, and emotional tension between the individual and the organization looking to leverage user data gathered or supplied.
Panelists include:
Focus will be on the fragile balance between personal consent and how organisations mine and leverage user data; and what organisations must consider in advance concerning real-time data decisions designed to enhance the customer experience.
Since the use of user data and identity has become such an important issue, we even partnered with sponsor ForgeRock to hear their CEO, Mike Ellis, keynote on the importance of identity in enabling engaging, consumer-focused, digital initiatives.
Not only that, but we also partnered with ForgeRock to present the Identity Summit on 8 October. Luckily, all you have to do to attend the summit is register for the U.K. CDO Summit and you will receive two free passes to the Identity Summit!
